Welcome!

 Welcome!

Let's kick this off with an image I had never seen before that I recently acquired.  It's attributed to Irv Johnson and is of Glenn Bishop - an early image to be certain!  Glenn was into bodybuilding in high school, was a life guard and was into a few sports, including gymnastics and swimming.  The date that this was taken is up for debate but most likely from the early 50's.

I've collected a few things dealing with Glenn, including a rare poster-sized photo from the Michigan state park series as well as five other 11x17 photos from that shoot from Clifford Oettinger.

This makes me think what started me into collecting physique material.  I collected nude male photography books for a bit and am a Robert Mapplethorpe fan (Just Kids by Patti Smith is an amazing book).

I bought a few Physique Pictorials on eBay and that started my interest in Bob Mizer.  I'll talk more about that later.  Enjoy this rare and hairless Glenn.

Scanned Out of Print Books - The Boy: A Photographic Essay, Boys will be Boys!

I know it is hard to find some books and even harder to find them at a good price, I decided to scan a few that are notable and out of print - with lapsed copyright or with an unknown copyright because the publishing house has gone out of business.  These are essentially orphaned works.  These titles were also owned by Michael Jackson, and were indicated on a list of items that were taken from Neverland Ranch.  Find them here: The Boy - A Photographic Essay - $25.00 Authors:  Georges St. Martin, Ronald C. Scanned Out of Print: Naked Heartland by Bruce of Los Angeles

I just bought a copy of the hard to find Bruce Bellas book, The Naked Heartland, published by Janssen Verlag in 2001.  It's a lovely book!  I was pleasantly surprised by how innocent but lovely and playful the black and white images are.  I believe they were taken mostly in the 1930's, though they could have been from the 1960's because they have a timeless quality to them.  One chapter is called Hotel Nebraska, another Back to the Coast.  Lots of outdoor shots as well as some more intimate hotel bedroom photos.  Here are a few tamer pictures.   Out in the woods.  Can you feel him almost staring through you?  Posed and reflecting, but those arms convey shyness and a sense of exposure. Inside and posing in some interesting underwear.  More casual feeling and the double shadows in the back make it more than just a young man exposed to a camera.
